It all starts when Sakura is once again having a strange dream. As she is sleeping, the book of Clow Cards starts to glow, and soon Sakura finds herself in a world of half dreams and half reality. She is in a blue room, and can hear the sound of water dripping as she is standing on top of a large pool. Suddenly, long ribbons come out from the water under her feet, and suck her down. She realizes that she can strangely breathe underwater and hears a mysterious voice (sounding much like Clow's). She wakes up that morning to find that it was only a dream.

It's time for winter break at Sakura's school, and report cards are passed out. Meiling is confident about her grades, but Shaolan is a nervous wreck about showing it to his parents. As Sakura and Tomoyo are picking up some things for their winter vacation homework, they go to a store. At the store, there is a contest where the contestant draws a ball out of a box filled with many balls of different colors. If you get lucky and pick the right one, you get a prize. Sakura decides to try her luck and reaches in the box, when suddenly an unknown force moves one of the balls into her hand.

She pulls the ball out of the box, and finds that it is a Gold ball. When she looks up to the chart of prizes, she sees that Gold is the grand prize to win a week-long trip to Hong Kong for four people. Sakura goes along with Tomoyo, Touya, Yukito, and Kero-chan, with Tomoyo filming the whole thing. And so begins another adventure.

The next night, Sakura once again has the same dream, except this time it is longer and more detailed. She sees two strange birds standing on the rafters above her, and then sees a woman floating in front of her with a long dress and ribbons all around her. Two of her ribbons reach out to Sakura and just as Sakura is about to touch them, she wakes up. That day, the group goes to Bird Street, a street filled with cages of birds. Sakura feels a strange aura, and sees the two birds from her dream. Kero-chan agrees that he feels the aura, and says that it's very different from a Clow Card's aura. When Sakura sees the two birds fly away, she immediately runs after them. Tomoyo runs after Sakura and Touya and Yukito chase after them. Sakura makes her way to a back alley, and releases the sealing wand, using the Jump card to get higher to look for the birds. They go down into an opening between buildings, and Sakura follows them, landing on the ground in between the buildings.

There is a well right next to her, and she feels a strange aura all around. She steps near the well and then looks back away from it, when two ribbons suddenly appear behind her, floating around her. Everything around her turns a strange blue color, like in her dream. Sakura's eyes go blank, as she is under a trance. Slowly, she floats up above the well, and looks down to see the reflection of the same woman from her dreams. She is about to fall in, when Shaolan appears right behind her and tells her to wake up. Sakura snaps out of the dream and asks what Shaolan is doing there, and loses her balance up on the side of the fountain, and falls in, soaked.

Meanwhile, Tomoyo and Meiling both meet in the Bird Street. Meiling asks if Tomoyo had seen Shaolan and said that he had run off, and Tomoyo says that Sakura also did the same thing. They then spot Sakura and Shaolan walking towards them, Sakura completely soaked. Touya and Yukito arrived afterwards, Touya extremely worried. They greet Meiling and Shaolan, and decide that Sakura needs to change out of her wet clothes. Shaolan and Meiling take them to their huge mansion, where the four of them all change into Chinese clothing and get to meet the rest of Shaolan's family, including Shaolan's four older sisters, who all swoon over how cute Sakura and Tomoyo are, then swoon over Touya and Yukito. The group then meets Shaolan's beautiful mother, who seems to develop quite an interest in Sakura. She senses Sakura's strong spirit and the Clow Cards, along with Kero-chan, and tells her that having a strong spirit can be dangerous, especially in Hong Kong. She then asks Sakura to spend the night at their home (much to the four sister's absolute delight) and Sakura and company spend the rest of the time at the Li household.

The plot deepens as Sakura has the same dream, yet in more detail, again, but this time, Sakura is physically grabbed by the ribbons, held suspended in the air in front of the woman. The ribbon that takes a hold of her arm leaves a mark. It seems that Sakura's not having a simple dream anymore. The rest of the story goes from there as Sakura little by little finds out what the strange dreams mean and who the lady in her dreams is, as she also gets to spend some more time with Shaolan's family. It seems Sakura has been brought to Hong Kong on purpose by someone very powerful: the woman in her dreams. She has to be careful of the danger that is imminent, as people with strong spirits also attract strong evils.
