Takashi Yamazaki is the only other male in Sakura's class that we really get to know in depth other than Shaolan and Eriol. He adds a lot of humor to the series.

The first thing that anyone will tell you about Yamazaki is that he's a compulsive liar. He lies about everything from flying penguins to strange traditions of ancient Indian tribes. However, his lies are so ramdp, that it's amazing anyone believes him. The funny thing is, people do. Especially Sakura, Shaolan, and Naoko. They are always astounded by all of Yamazaki's fibs and believe every single word that comes out of his mouth. Somehow Yamazaki manages to always confuse everyone.

The only people that don't believe Yamazaki are Eriol and Chiharu. That's because Eriol is too smart to be tricked by him (besides, nobody knows what Eriol is ever thinking... o_O;) and Chiharu can see right through him. This is also where Yamazaki's love life comes in. No, not with Eriol, but with Chiharu. Chiharu is the onlyYamazaki in his usual lie telling pose person who can see through Yamazaki's fibs, and almost all of the time, she ends up strangling him or hitting him over the head to make him shut up. Once Yamazaki starts to go off into one of his stories, Chiharu looks at him suspiciously, then gets more and more suspicious as his story gets wackier. Towards the end, she gets a vein on her head and says, "All lies. It's all a lie." And then everyone around her says, "What? It was a lie?" Yamazaki had everyone fooled already.

Yamazaki and Chiharu are constantly teasing each other, and the teasing comes specially from Yamazaki's part. He is a smart ass, and he has a lot of fun being one. He always insults Chiharu on her cooking, and ends up getting strangled by her once again. The two are obviously very close, and they're just about the only ones who are somewhat violent to each other in CCS. Even though they might act like they annoy each other, it's very evident that they enjoy each other's company. Whenever there is a carnival or a festival, the two always go with each other, and Yamazaki usually gets Chiharu a treat or a prize. I really adore their relationship, because it's really amusing. If Chiharu wasn't there, then Yamazaki would constantly be lying, and nobody would be there to stop him. And, well, without Yamazaki, Chiharu would just about have no character development whatsoever. And that would be tragic.

There is one other characteristic of Yamazaki that he is identified with, and that is the fact that his eyes are almost always closed. If there's another anime character that you would like to compare him with, it would be Xelloss from Slayers. They both even have the same lying pose! Whenever Yamazaki lies, he puts his finger up to his face and grins widely. Now tell me that isn't exactly like Xellos' "Sore wa himitsu desu" phrase. Yamazaki is always happy, and this is also another characteristic of characters with eyes that are almost always closed. His eyes also adds a more mysterious air around him, making it harder to tell if he's really lying or telling the truth. He's cheerful at all times; there's hardly a time when he's truly serious.

Overall, Yamazaki is a great character. He's got a really original personality and adds a lot of comedy to the series. He's one of my favorites, and I love his relationship with Chiharu. One thing that I always wonder about him is what color eyes he has. There might be a few manga pictures with his eyes open, but there are almost no instances where Yamazaki opens his eyes in the anime. It's crazy, I tell ya!
