Nakuru shows up in the third season along with Eriol and Suppi. Addressed as Ruby Moon in one form and Nakuru in the human form, she seems to be nothing but an annoyance, a distraction at points, and someone you downright want to strangle when she gets in the way of a beautiful Touya x Yukito moment once again.

As Ruby Moon, Nakuru is Yue's counterpart. Actually, the whole Eriol teem has the silhouette of Sakura and co. Sakura and Eriol are the little kids in charge, Yue and Ruby Moon are the human-like creatures with wings, and Kero and Suppi are the little stuffed animals that turn into large cat-like beasts. These counterparts balance each other out in more ways than one. First off, though Ruby Moon is neither female nor male, she likes to choose the female figure as a human and has a much more feminine build even as her actual self. She's fun-loving, lighthearted, and laughs a lot. Yue (though questionable whether he's more masculine than feminine) on the other hand, is just about as emotionally-drained as he can get. While Yue is the essence of light, cold colors, Ruby Moon is clad with a passionate, warm red.

Throughout the third season, Nakuru often leaves everyone wondering if she's really worth anything to Eriol's plans. Nakuru simply loves to have fun and she takes the chance to do so whenever she possibly can. She adores teasing people, for one. Leaving people in general chaos and confusion is another one of her favorites. Poor Suppi is often the one who gets the full wrath of her fun, as he has to live in a house with her and deal with her cooking. She likes to plant sweet things into Suppi's food just to get him high and watch the amusing effects. Often times her appearances are marked by shrill calls, a fast sprint, and painful glomps. She doesn't care what other people think and often does whatever she wishes in order to have a good time. She's definitely a prankster, in a way like Eriol. Except, while Eriol's pranks are subtle and quiet, Nakuru's are as loud as they can get. She can get to the point of utter exasperation and even Eriol gets tired of her undying energy at times.

Nakuru's general job in the third season of CCS is to be an annoyance, a distraction, a bump in the road. She's assigned to keep Yukito as clueless as possible about Yue. In order to do this, she has to keep Touya and Yukito apart and always burst in on them whenever Touya is about to say something about Yukito's true form. As Touya is able to sense that Yukito isn't quite human, he's the only one who can tell Yukito about Yue's existence. Therefore, whenever they have a single moment to themselves (leaving all the rabid fangirls screaming in anticipation), Nakuru is often there to interrupt it. Because Eriol can't afford for Yukito to know of his true form yet, Nakuru is added into the equation to come in between the two.

Nakuru pretends that she has a crush on Touya and is quite open with her feelings: always tagging after him, hugging him and never letting go, eating his ice cream. Towards the end of the series, Touya is finally completely fed up with her and pushes her out of the way. However, Nakuru isn't insulted or dejected. She doesn't take a lot seriously and didn't quite take her feelings that she cultivated for Touya seriously either. They were just a part of her job, which she carried out perfectly for quite a while until the circumstances no longer allowed her to thwart Touya and Yukito's relationship. She sighed a resigned sigh at knowing that she wouldn't be able to come in between them anymore, then skipped off to find something else that would keep her amused, now that her one source of entertainment was gone.

Nakuru is certainly a character that is hated more than she's loved. This comes from the fact that a lot of Card Captor Sakura fans are also fans of Touya and Yukito being together. And the fact that Nakuru has to play the devil's advocate and keep the two apart never bodes well with the fans. However, though Nakuru is there to keep Touya and Yukito apart, it's because of her that the series focuses more on Touya and Yukito's relationship. Nakuru allows Touya and Yukito's relationship to take more interesting turns because they have to deal with so many problems at the same time. First there's Yukito's loss of energy and increase of appetite, then there's the fact that Touya hasn't been able to have a calm moment with him and the angst is building. As they have to deal with these problems building atop each other through the third season, it adds spice and interest to their relationship, which I'm sure would've been boring without all the drama.

Nakuru plays a rather minor role in the series as a whole but the impact that she has on Touya and Yukito is the main focus of her existence. And you can't help but love her background theme music whenever she appears in the anime -- it's so skippy and bouncy, representing her character well. Nakuru is such a lighthearted human being that one often forgets that she's actually an alien. At the end of the series I wonder what happens to her and Suppi, but I assume they go with Eriol to live in England.
