Now, let me say this: Nadeshiko is very clumsy. We don't get to see too much of her in the series, since she passed away and isn't a major character, but we still have some insight as to how she and Fujitaka met. The two met each other while Nadeshiko and Sonomi (Tomoyo's mother, who is Nadeshiko's cousin) were walking around on campus when Nadeshiko climbed a tree. Being the clumsy person she is, she lost her balance and fell. She was going to hit the ground, but her fall was cushioned by somebody else. She had fallen on top of Fujitaka.
Even though their marriage was regretted by Nadeshiko's family, the two still loved each other very dearly and didn't mind. Nadeshiko worked as a model while Fujitaka kept up his work as a college professor. Eventually, Nadeshiko became sick and passed away. Fujitaka promised her that he wouldn't cry for her, and would live a happy life, even though she wasn't there. So, no matter how sad he is, he never cries about it. I thought that was touching. When Sonomi was fighting with him (err... fighting at him), he told her that he doesn't cry because he promised Nadeshiko he wouldn't. It's as if he needs to cry about it, because it's obvious that he was very sad when she passed away, but he stays strong and keeps his promise. Nadeshiko was a very caring, though young, mother. She had always wanted to name her daughter after her favorite flower, the Cherry Blossom, or Sakura. Sakura never got to know her well, but Touya was ten years old when she passed away, so he still remembers her and was much closer to her than Sakura was. Nadeshiko played the piano well and taught Touya how to play also. I do believe that Touya got his sixth sense from Nadeshiko, also. After Nadeshiko passed away, Touya was able to see her and other spirits. However, once he grew older, he stopped seeing her. The first time he saw her after a long absence was when Sakura was put in danger by one of the Clow Cards and almost drowned. The next morning, as Sakura said good morning to the picture of Nadeshiko on the desk, Nadeshiko appeared behind her. Touya looked at her in shock, and she turned to him, telling him that she came because she was worried about Sakura, and to make sure that she was okay. The Kinomoto family keeps Nadeshiko's picture framed on the kitchen table. Each morning, as Sakura comes downstairs to eat her breakfast, she says good morning to her brother and father, and then to her mother's picture. Sakura is very curious about her mother, and I think she does regret that she wasn't old enough to remember her well. When Sakura found an old calendar that Nadeshiko used to keep, she looked at it and studied it for hours, happy that she was able to get her hands on something that was so close to her mother when she was alive. |
